Draftea raises USD $20M Series A and partners up with the NFL

Draftea, the first daily fantasy sports platform in Spanish-speaking Latin America

Draftea is the first daily fantasy sports platform in Spanish-speaking Latin America. Their Series A funding round was led by Stepstone Group, with participation from existing investors Sequoia, Kaszek, Bullpen and Courtside Ventures. Athletes including soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo also participated in the round as Angel Investors.

It is important to mention that Draftea was Sequoia’s first investment in a Mexican startup, and since their Seed Round their team has doubled.

Draftea’s offering is unique as it offers daily engagement, it is not a traditional sports betting company where players compete against a central bookmaker, but rather compete against each other by making their teams.

The startup is taking football to the region with a new partnership with the NFL and together they launched NFL by Draftea, where users will be able to draft their lineups for the upcoming NFL season this fall. According to Jaime Misrahi, CEO of Draftea, Mexico is the second-biggest market globally for the NFL.
